Whitehouse is yours for the duration of your stay. Gather around the Aga, dine together around a table for up to 14, relax beside the open fire, settle into the TV room for a film, or head outside to the hot tub and private garden. Whitehouse Country House, a 19th century Dower House built for the Duchess of Sutherland, where we offer visitors five star self catering luxury in the heart of the Scottish Borders. The comfortable dining and drawing rooms both have wonderful south facing views towards the Cheviot Hills overlooking the River Tweed and the rolling Scottish Borders countryside. A roaring log fire further adds to your sense of relaxation on cooler nights.
There are no other guests, no shared spaces and no fixed timetable — just a characterful Borders country house that belongs entirely to your group.

Whitehouse has the generous proportions of a Victorian Borders house: a wide welcoming hall, a drawing room made for long evenings, and a separate TV room when the film choices differ.

The kitchen
A fully equipped country-house kitchen centred around an AGA, with a microwave, dishwasher, cooking equipment, crockery, glasses and cutlery — everything a group needs to self-cater properly.
The dining room
A formal dining room seating up to 14 guests. Ideal for family meals, birthday dinners, reunion weekends, celebrations and Christmas or New Year style gatherings when dates are available.
Laundry
Two washing machines, an outdoor drying green and a traditional kitchen maid pulley in the kitchen for drying indoors.

Whitehouse is marketed as sleeping 10–14 guests. Please confirm your exact party when enquiring.

Dogs welcome

We know a Borders break is even better when the dogs can come too. Whitehouse welcomes up to three dogs, subject to our house rules.

  • £25 per dog per stay
  • Dogs are not permitted in two designated bedrooms
  • The two dog-free bedrooms are clearly marked at the house
  • Guests bringing dogs accept the pet rules when booking
  • Confirmation that your dog(s) are fully up-to-date with their vaccinations and worming is required

    • Wonderful- location, house, hot tub. All was amazing and worked so well for our family. Loved the long table in the dining room and the aga. The house was so cosy in spite of the very low temperatures. The scenery was brilliant and sunsets incredible.

  • Absolutely wonderful holiday house. So much space and everything you need and more for self-catering. Stunning views. We loved the hot tub, the open fire and the Aga. The bedrooms are very tastefully furnished and the ensuites huge! Can’t recommend it highly enough.
